When will the current film distribution model collapse?

tirsdag, 13. april 2010 - 12:40 | No comments »

Interesting blogpost by Clay Shirky on the collapse of complex business models with inspiration drawn from Joseph Tainter’s “The Collapse of Complex Societies”

Wonder how to get the industry of filmdistribution to stop rewarding complexity and work in a simple manner to the benefit of film makers and film lovers alike. In my opinion the filmindustry is tangled up in and a complex old school “used to work” system. Way to complex and bureaucratic. Who holds the rights? and for what part or region in the world, and who to contact to get permission to screen a movie? All question that are very time consuming and most often lead you nowhere if you’re interested in screening movies (sharing great films in a social space) or to an automatic answer about a flat screening fee not to be negotiatied since its been written down by someone higher up in the system.

Well well, still thinking about how to crack the nut. Any ideas or experience from alternatives are most welcome…..

Baby Love – Music Video for Kandy Kolored Tangerine

The result of a couple of late nights together with Final Cut and a step in my pursuit of recontextualizing film history.

samples from the following sources:
it felt like a kiss by adam curtis
pierrot le fou by godard
the shinning by stanley kubrick
naked lunch by david cronenberg
barton fink by joel coen
skin by elin magnusson
fruticake by sara kaaman & ester martin bergsmark
ovoce stromu rajskych jime by vera chytilova
sunrise by f.w. murnau
wall-e by andrew stanton
wild at heart by david lynch
vertig by alfred hitchcock
match by yoko ono
baby love by lind hayden

there’s two titles more, but I extracted the excerpts a long time ago and have forgotten the sources. It’s the black and white images with the face and the woman and the animated tower, but I’ll update the list as soon as I recall. Need to figure out a way to annotate and keep track of sources as welll as describing the various scenes with proper keywords for later use. Would be great with one big database on film language with the entire film history deconstructed into “words”, “sentences”, “moods”, “panning direction”, “color/bw”, “charaters” and so on.

Lidt over the top måske, men teknisk veludført og bestem værd at finde inspiration i. Så mangler blot tid og vilje.
